how walkable is your house?

my walk score was 71 out of 100. higher than i expected, although, i would argue their definition of "grocery store."

"Walk Score helps people find walkable places to live. Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc."

what's your walk score?

lost and found

on saturday, we had 6 miles to complete for our team run and i did it with my friend, jen. we were chatting away and missed a turn on the course, even though the coach had taken the time to put chalk arrows on the pavement and told us where the turn was before we began.

these are mostly unfamiliar roads to me so i rarely know where i am in the midst of these training sessions. once we realized that we had likely missed the turn, we started asking random people that passed by, "excuse me, do you know where neiman is?" the first couple people didn't speak english, or pretended not to speak english. and the final person, told us it was opposite the direction we were heading. we didn't know by what distance so, we just kept going, creating our own course.

because, we are often at the back of the pack, fellow teammates have gotten used to passing us on their way back and encouraging us as they pass. saturday, it was less about encouragement and more about "hmmm, has anyone seen jen & amy?" we wondered if a search party would be sent but since it was only 6 miles, we returned before anyone got to that point. there were lots of "where were you" questions and we tried to be creative in our answers but it didn't get us very far. we just got lost...kinda. :)

btw, jen- thanks for pushing me this week!

since a couple people asked, my deadline for thursday has come & gone and we were so close to the goal. i was hoping to raise $2000 by thursday so $1911 isn't too bad. thank you to all who participated in the first half of my fundraising efforts. i'm going to have to get creative for the second half and i'll be sure to let you know of any events.

thank you to the following people for their recent donations:

Bess Bundy
Courtney Reid
Jen & Mike Dehaven

as always, if you would like to support me & the leukemia & lymphoma society, please, visit my website.

yet another reason to love metro bus drivers

i was on my way to work this morning and i got on the same bus i take every day. the same driver has been on this route for the last couple weeks, although, i don't know her name. as i'm getting off at my stop, she stops me:

driver: have you ever modeled?
me: no (is she talking to me?)
driver: i did it professionally in new york for a while. you should really consider it.
me: thanks! (uncomfortable but flattered smile)

the things i would miss out on if i drove a car to work. :)

A half marathon!

I now know that I am capable of completing a half marathon which is pretty dang exciting. I still have about 3 months of training so I think I'm in good shape. This weekend's course was chosen for it's hills and we were all hurting a bit as a result. Of course, we're prepping for a marathon in San Francisco so bring on the hills! I wonder if San Fran will also have deer to greet us along the path?

This Thursday, July 26th, is the deadline for reaching 50% of my fundraising goal. At this moment, we're at 45%...we're soooo close! Thank you to everyone that has participated in this part of the project. It's exciting to know that together, we're helping families and patients live more fulfilling and longer lives. This week, I thank:

Rania Dallal
Jarod & Mary McBride
Charline Biondo
Bill & Kathy W.
Carol Samrualruen
Roger Cromwell
Kara Fink

If you would like to help me step closer to the goal of raising $4000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, click here (sorry, website is no longer available) to visit my fundraising website. Thanks!

Deadline- July 26th!

Dear friends and family,

As you may remember, I'm training for the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco with Team in Training (TNT.) We all want to find a cure for blood-related cancers so we're raising money for that cause. My personal goal is to raise $4000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I'm hoping to meet the half-way point by July 26th. That's less than 2 weeks away! WILL YOU HELP ME? Will you make a donation today? Will you forward this email to your friends, family & co-workers?

As I've learned, you never know who may want an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. I received a couple donations from people I didn't even know, simply because their favorite artist posted a MySpace bulletin and blog that included my website and marathon info. One of those people had recently lost a friend to Leukemia and was grateful to have a chance to honor her and help others affected by the same disease. It takes just a moment to do but the effects are long lasting. Please, take a moment to pass along this email.

My TNT fundraising website is:
website no longer active

Many of you have already made contributions on my behalf and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, once again. I am deeply touched by your generosity and support. Together, we have raised $1,100 so far! On behalf of The Society and the families they touch, a heartfelt thank you. I've been updating my TNT website with weekly entries regarding the week's training. If you're interested, please, feel free to stop by to see both my training and fundraising progress.

My first deadline is quickly approaching. Please, consider how you may help in reaching this first goal marker of $2000. Remember, every little bit helps!

With sincere thanks,

P.S. In case, you're willing to post a MySpace bulletin, blog post or email notice, here's content/copy you may want to use. Of course, you don't have to use it but I know you're busy people!

Subject: Support A Good Cause
Body: My friend, Amy, is training for the Nike Women's Marathon in order to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Leukemia is the 1 disease killer of children but it strikes 10 times as many adults. Unfortunately, cancer has touched many of our lives which is why I'm asking you to consider joining in this fight. Please, visit Amy's website to make a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on her behalf.
